Beauty (is not) Only Skin Deep.

By Popcorn Avenger

I will be the first one to acknowledge that film is a visual medium and that being said we like to watch films that look good. However, why is it that Hollywood still tries to convince us, in the content of film, that beauty is only skin deep, but you will only be rewarded if you are the attractive one. I recently watched and reviewed Miss Congeniality and I have seen numerous television spots for The Princess Diaries and Hollywood still sends the same message it has for the last century: Your inner-beauty will only be recognized when your outer beauty is improved. Now I like to look at beautiful women as much as the next guy, but I will admit this and not try to tell you about the substance of a person reaching deeper than her looks… hey I will proudly admit that I am shallow, why can’t Hollywood? Why not? I’ll tell you why... because ugly people watch movies, (shit I do and I’ve been accused of being a refugee from the planet of the apes) and they want to feel that inside their morose, 300-pound frame lives a Freddie Prinze Jr. or a Julia Stiles. Since you won’t hear this from family and friends, let me the one to tell you… you are fat and ugly. Don’t believe what Hollywood is trying to tell you about inner beauty and respect what they are showing you. Get off that fat ass of yours and trade in those worn out house slippers for jogging shoes because the sad reality is that we live in a shallow country. As for Hollywood, stop trying to play pop-psychology while sending us mixed messages. Don’t cast a good looking person, make him or her up to look ugly, then give a makeover to look good again. We ain’t fallin’ for it.
