By Popcorn Avenger I Am Sam, while supported by a very talented cast, has all of the depth of a television movie. The film follows the legal battles of Sam (Sean Penn) who has the mental capabilities of a seven year old. Somehow he was able to father a child. Now Child Protective Services wants to remove his daughter in favor of a foster family more suited to take care of her. The acting in this film is superb, and while the film is enticing, the viewer is not left with a lot to digest once it is over. Still it is a good view and worth checking out, if not in the theater then definitely on video.   Back to Movie Index |
