The Job

By Popcorn Avenger

I know this show is not entirely new, but it does desrve mention. Denis Leary’s The Job premiered last spring as a mid-season replacement and then came back again this summer. On rare occasion, the mid-summer replacement produces a gem of a show (hey, Moonlighting and The A-Team were midseason replacements). The Job is just such a show. Denis Leary plays a New York City Detective who is trying to balance his stressful career with a wife and mistress. Leary is a natural in this role. He has enough of a jagged edge to his person that it is believable that he is a veteran of NYPD. Yet at the same time Leary knows how to tap into an inner sensitivity that prevents him from becoming an angry male caricature. Well done.
