American Pie 2
By Popcorn Avenger

No Jokes about serving up a second helping of pie; AP2 is more of the first. If you enjoyed the first, you will like the second. If, however, you did not see 1999’s American Pie , you may be lost. Several story threads from the first film find their way into this film, most noticeably Stiffler’s mom, band camp and the internet (if you haven’t seen the original these references will not make sense to you). Like most sequels, it searches out the good points about the original and tries to outdo them. Some of these gags work, but most fall short. The best aspect of this film is that Steven Stifler(Sean William Scott) has an augmented role, especially Stifler’s fascination with the sexual orientation of two beauties. Although there are plenty of laughs, I couldn’t help but leave the theatre with two thoughts: a) was it really necessary to revisit these characters and b) please let this be the last serving of pie (I mean really, eventually Jim will get a clue about sex). I am glad the principals from the first film all returned, but at times the story became overstrained with finding a reason for the entire cast to return. American Pie 2 is worth some laughs, but let’s hope that Universal does not try to bake up a third helping.
