Jurassic Park 3
By Popcorn Avenger

When we last visited Isla Sorna it was apparent that the government of Costa Rica were going to shut down and quarantine the island, so what are people doing back on the island? Like Camp Crystal Lake, people in the movie world just can’t help themselves to a good thrill. This time, divorced couple Paul and Amanda Kirby have lost their son, Eric, who was parasailing around the island with Amanda’s beau, and they mount a rescue mission. Apparently both the Costa Rican and United States governments refused to help so they employ the help of resident dino-expert, Dr. Alan Grant. Once they get to the island, as always, chaos ensues. This time around viewers are treated to some old dino-favorites, like the velociraptor and t-rex, and new dinos-on-the-block, spinosaurus and the flying pteronodon. While the film is pretty much par-for-the-Jurassic Park-course, there are some refreshing elements to the film. This time the youth on the island, rather than serving as an annoying obstacle, is actually a useful element in our heroes’ escape. The talents of Sam Neill, William H. Macy, and Téa Leoni help carry the viewer through a rather uninspired adventure. While I enjoyed this film more than The Lost World Jurassic Park, I still hope that this will be the last of this film series.

The DVD boasts over 11 hours of special features, which are pretty much similar to its predecessor’s features. One noteable exception being that of an absence deleted scenes. With a running time of 92 minutes, surely there must have been some deleted scenes worth showing. Besides that the special effects documentaries lend nothing new to those who have scene a JP behind-the-scenes featurette. This film is like a roller-coaster at the local amusement park: fun while you’re on it, but not much to talk about when all is said and done.
