The Score
By Popcorn Avenger

One would think with the combination of three generations of truly great actors (Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro and Edward Norton) The Score would be a can't miss film… Wrong! This film is the largest waste of talent in Hollywood history. You would think that great talents like Brando, DeNiro and Norton would have it in their power to select a film project that would not fall back on trite, stereotypic, Hollywood formula. The caper is nothing new to film, and, with the exception of Norton, the leads walk through their lines on cruise control. As of late, DeNiro doesn't even try to make good films (case in point: Rocky and Bullwinkle and 15 Minutes) and Brando appears to gobble up his lines like last night's seven course dinner. As the British would say, "I know the score…" and it sucked.

As for the special features, this disc is pretty standard for most new discs: A behind-the-scenes featurette (akin to those HBO specials), additional scenes and a theatrical trailer, along with director commentary. The featurette really lends nothing new to the development of the plot and the additional scenes are by in large mundane, with one exception. Three different takes of a scene between Brando and Deniro. This scene was a chance for the average viewer to catch a glimpse at that, which once made Brando great. Although the differences are subtle, what you do receive is insight into the mind of an actor who is always working within his environment. With this exception, The Score DVD, much like the film, fails to score.
