By Popcorn Avenger While this summer has been full of disappointments, here is a film that delivers all that it promises, which is not a whole lot. The story is completely predictable and at times boring; however strong performances will carry you through this piece. Reese Witherspoon is absolutely captivating as Elle. This actress has both the ability and the looks to be one of Hollywood’s future megastars. The premise may seem unbelievable, but the conviction with which Witherspoon attacks her role is more than enough to suspend your disbelief. Another pleasure of the film is watching Luke Wilson. While he has largely gone unnoticed in the mainstream of Hollywood, here is an actor whose screen presence is so natural you forget he is in it. In an age where over-the-top performances are largely recognized and rewarded, it is nice to see an actor who can just be. Overall, an enjoyable afternoon, but if this one gets by you, don’t shed any tears.   Back to Movie Index |
