This summer is definitely the summer of the apes. With the return of the Planet of the Apes franchise to the big screen, the music world is having their own ape infestation. This summer marked the release of Blur’s Damon Albarn side band, Gorillaz. The Gorillaz use their brute strength to pound a mix of alternative rock and reggae for a rather unusual sound appealing to one’s ears. Part of the Gorillaz magic lays in the their incredibly stylistic album and video art. The self-titled disc also contains kick-ass animation shorts. This sound is a by far the most unique of the summer. Fans of all music can appreciate this album. These Gorillaz are certainly going to rule the musical planet. This album is worthy of a 9.5 out of 10. |
