Sugar Ray
By Logan Legacy

Have you ever noticed that when a band finds success, they tend to simply repeat what made them successful? This is certainly the case for Sugar Ray’s latest self titled album. The band found great fame from slow songs like Someday and Every Morning on their previous album, 14:59. Sugar Ray, on this album, forgot their punk roots and went full blown POP. I really miss the punk sounds of the band that got me into them in the first place. But damn it, their POP music is good!!! Despite what musicians say, they are in the biz for money. Sugar Ray found what makes the greenbacks and is producing it. All I can say is at least it still sounds good. The first single, When It’s Over, is easy on the ears but lacks the intensity of previous Sugar Ray classics like RPM. Mark McGrath and the band should take a page out of Everclear’s book and produce two albums; one for their old fans and the other for their new ones, that way everyone is happy. This album is a great piece to relax to. It is mellow and pleasing to hear, especially if this is your first experience with Sugar Ray. Unfortunately for me, it is not. I really wish it had some hard rock elements. Sugar Ray is worthy of a 7 out of 10.
