U2-Elevation Tour Live from Oakland 11-15-01
By Popcorn Avenger

14 years ago, on November 14, 1987, I entered the Oakland Coliseum to watch my first live concert. I had only a passing interest in U2 upon entering the arena, but when I left I was a U2 fan. Ever since that time I had always planned on going to another concert, but one thing or another had always kept me from going. After 11-15-01, I regret letting other things get in my way. U2 is the premier live concert band. They electrified the audience from the first number of “Elevation” through two encores. One hour and fifty minutes later, I do not think there was one disappointed fan in the house. U2 also took the concert venue as an opportunity to offer support to the American public following the events of 9-11-01. One encore was entirely dedicated to those tragic events with songs such as “What’s Going On”(joined on stage by Gwen Stefanie) and “New York”. I have often been asked who was the best concert bands I had ever seen, and while I often thought U2, I was never sure if that was because they were that good or because it was my first concert… after 11-15-01, I am sure that it was because U2 is that good.
